Last Saturday (1st December 2018) was our Christmas Open Day. We invited our artists and makers to come along to talk to visitors about their workshops, do some demonstrations and to sell their work. It was a great opportunity for visitors to see our unique workshop space, get a sneak peek at some of our workshops, support local artists and makers on Small Business Saturday - and help us raise funds for Art in Healthcare.
Our thanks to all the artists who attended:
Mark Kirkham, aka the Edinburgh Sketcher, who demonstrated his workshops by doing some live sketching on the day, and talked to visitors about his new collaboration with Cassandra Barron - a book binding and speed-sketching day.
Eugenia Rosa dropped in to talk to people about her upcoming course The Artists Way Creative Woman’s Circle starting in January 2019. We can't wait for this.
Our jewellery tutor Anna Campbell demonstrated how to use silver clay to make unique jewellery, and had a lovely collection of her own pieces for sale.
Art tutor Suzanne Kemplay exhibited some of her original oil paintings and limited edition prints, introduced visitors to lino printing, and talked about her Art and Wine Evenings and new flower painting course starting in 2019.
Calligraphy artist Panna Chauhan embellished bespoke calligraphy glass Christmas baubles and gift tags to order, talked about her calligraphy workshops, and had some beautiful hand made cards for sale.
Jenny Smith from the Scottish Soapworks filled the room with the scent of essential oils as she demonstrated how to make glycerine soap, and moulded alphabet soaps and hearts on a rope to order for visitors.
John served up some warming mulled wine, mince pies and snacks. And thanks to your generous donations we raised £76 for local charity Art in Healthcare. You can read more about the work of the charity in our blog interview with artist Suzanne Kemplay, an Arienas Collective artist and Art in Healthcare volunteer.
Visitors were invited to enter our Open Day Prize Draw either on Facebook or in person on the day. We had some fabulous prizes donated by each of the artists. And we can now announce that the lucky winners are:
Michele Joyce - £45 Arienas Collective Gift Voucher
Elspeth Anderson - Large Suzanne Kemplay signed print
Samantha Wells - Anna Campbell-Hall silver owl necklace
Jennifer Walsh - Small Suzanne Kemplay signed print
Lesley Gordon - The Scottish Soapworks Gardiner's Compendium
Mel Lee - The Edinburgh Sketcher 'Midhope and more' book
Huge thanks to all those that attended. We were so pleased to welcome you to our home and hope to welcome you back for a workshop at The Arienas Collective in 2019.
